What is Genre ?

Simply a french term for type or kind. In Media Studies is is a theoretical term for classification of media texts into type groupings

Eg:

Crime

Horror

Rom Com (hybrid)

Action

Crime

An example of a crime film is "Shottas", this film involves a lot of illegal activity and gore due to all the violence committed.

Horror

An example of a horror movie is "Chain Saw Massacre", this film involves a lot of suspence and gore and "jumpy" scenes. all in all films that come under the horror genre are all scary.

Rom Com

An example of a Rom Com is "P.S I Love You", this film involves a lot of the usual cheesy romance between to lovers and it also has a lot of humour. A rom com is also looked upon as a hybrid as it is a mix between two genres. A hybrid simply means a mix between to genres

Action

An example of a Action movie is Taken, this film involves a whole heap of action hense the reason why it is a action movie, most the time action movies involve fast paste problem solving, crime and explosions.
